To propel humanity should be China’s first priority – Red Cross

Beijing: Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, recently gave an exclusive interview to China Media Group (CMG). She said that armed conflicts are constantly increasing in the world. This has created a huge humanitarian pressure. Leaders have to make a common effort and solve this problem through political dialogue.

She said that I have just reviewed the situation of the hospital in Gaza. The situation there is shocking. We cannot ignore it. Local people not only lose their lives due to military action, but also die of hunger due to lack of food. The medical system is also being destroyed.

Egger said that our primary task is to provide medical rescue, restore water supply and provide emergency assistance to the people. Along with this, we assist in the release of hostages in Gaza. We request various parties to continue talks and reach an agreement. What is happening in Gaza is inhuman, so it is very important to support humanitarian organizations like the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In the conversation, she said that China is a very important global and regional stakeholder in the political and economic fields and in peace and security. We hope that China will play its role to encourage various countries to abide by international humanitarian law. Humanitarianism is rooted in China’s tradition and culture. China has always supported our work. We have established many cooperation platforms and concluded many agreements. We hope that such cooperation will continue and more concrete achievements will be made.
